Twenty-One Named to MASCAC Spring Academic Honor RollMonday, June 8, 2009 ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation spring Academic Honor Roll, which notes academic excellence by student-athletes, contains 442 honorees as announced by Executive Director Ken Andrews.
The Honor Roll comprises those student-athletes of sophomore class standing or higher who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) or higher and completed the playing season in good standing.
Messiah led in selections with 70 student-athletes, followed by Elizabethtown with 49. Misericordia and King’s tied for third with 39 student-athletes. Lebanon Valley was fifth with 38, while Manhattanville, Widener and Eastern tied for sixth with 32 student-athletes on the list. Lycoming was ninth with 29 student-athletes. Arcadia and FDU-Florham tied for tenth with 25. DeSales and Wilkes each had 24, followed by Albright (21), Delaware Valley (20) and Alvernia (13).
Featured on the spring honor roll are several standouts including First Team All-Conference selections Jason Dunkelberger (Baseball), and Lisa Archibald (Women’s Tennis). Also featured on this year’s list was Second Team All-Conference selection Marissa Cooperman (Women’s Tennis).
Student-athletes are selected from baseball, softball, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s track and field, women’s track and field, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and golf.
Click here for Albright honorees Click here for all honorees | Men’s Golf Finishes in Second Place at Commonwealth ChampionshipsMonday, April 27, 2009 HARRISBURG, Pa. - On the final day of the 2009 Commonwealth Conference Men’s Golf championship, the Lions led by First Team All-Conference honorees Erik Thorn (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and Matt Osorio (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill) placed second at the Blue Ridge Country Club.
The red and white as a whole dropped nine strokes to close out the second day of competition with a 318, giving them a combined score of 645. Taking first place at this year’s championship was Elizabethtown College who earned a two day total of 638 (311, 327).
At Left: First Team All-Conference Selection Erik Thorn Closing out Monday in third place were the Falcons of Messiah College (654), followed by the Pride of Widener University in fourth place (661). Lebanon Valley College ended this year’s championship in fifth place (684). Lycoming College recorded a two day score of 718 to finish in sixth place, and Arcadia University closed out the field in seventh with a score of 764. Earning the individual championship as well as being named Conference Player of the Year was Elizabethtown’s Kurt Amen who recorded a score of 156 (75, 81). Behind him was teammate and conference Rookie of the Year Nick Iacono. Iacono finished tied for second with Thorn, who trailed the conference champion by just one stroke with a 157.

Recording Albright’s third best score was David Morano (Scranton, PA/Lakeland) with a 165. He was then followed by Brett Cybulski (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill) with a score of 168. Steve Werst (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) closed out the 2009 conference championship tournament with a score of 168 to place tied for 24th. Final Tournament Results | Men’s Golf Sitting in Second Place at Conference ChampionshipsSunday, April 26, 2009 HARRISBURG, Pa. - After their first day of competition the Albright College Men’s Golf is currently sitting in second place at the 2009 Commonwealth Conference Golf tournament at the Blue Ridge Country Club.
Holding on to first place are the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College with a score of 311. Albright who has a team score of 327 is currently 39 over par on the 6,880 yard course. Tied for third place are Messiah College and Widener University (335). Lebanon Valley ranks fifth overall with a score of 344, while Lycoming College (367) sits in sixth place and Arcadia University (381) in seventh. Elizabethtown’s Kurt Amen leads the field with a score of 75, +3. Behind him is Messiah’s Corey Wenger with a score of 76. Sitting in third place is Albright’s Erik Thorn (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) who has a 77 after his first day in the conference championship. Since joining the Lions, Thorn has been dominant throughout the spring season. Also ranking as one of the top ten golfers is sophomore Matt Osorio (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill). Osorio is currently nine over par with an 81. David Morano (Scranton, PA/Lakeland) is in 11th place with an 83. Steve Werst (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) sits tied for 15th overall with an 86. Closing out the afternoon for the Lions was Brett Cybulski (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill) with a 91 (t-25th). Men’s Golf will return to action tomorrow morning for day two of the conference championships.
