Bausch Leads Men's Indoor Track and Field to Victory in Home Meet

February 14, 2009

READING, Pa. – Scheduled to compete in five events during Albright College’s Indoor Track and Field Meet at the John School Life Sports Center, Ryan Bausch (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) knew he had a busy afternoon to look forward to.  Bausch made the best of all his events and led the Lions to a victory in their home indoor meet.

Bausch took three 1st place finishes during the day’s festivities.  He started it off by easily taking the triple jump with a distance of 12.68 meters.  He continued his jumping right into the long jump which he also won with a distance of 6.2 meters.  Bausch then headed into the 400-meter dash, where he took home his third victory by clocking in at a time of 55 seconds, only nine-tenths of a second ahead of teammate Jermaine Johnson (Forestville, MD/Suitland).

Bausch received one 2nd place in the pole vault and a 3rd place in the 55-meter dash in which he was narrowly edged out for 2nd by fellow Lion Ryan Mays (Reiserstown, MD/Franklin) by only one tenth of a second.

George Cook (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) was excellent in winning the two events he participated in.  He won the 800-meter run by a seven second difference by checking in with a time of 2:12.2.  Cook also won the one mile run by an even larger nine second margin, crossing the finish line with a time of 4:40.7.

Even with the amazing individual performances by Bausch and Cook, the most dominant performance of the afternoon went to the Red and White throwers in the shot put and the weight throw.

The Lions were responsible for the top five finishes in both events.  Leading the way in the shot put was freshman, Jordan Gilbert (Pittsgrove, NJ/Arthur P. Schalick) who hurled it to a distance of 41-11.50.  Ryan Thomas took first in the weight throw with a winning toss of 44-07.00.

Mays, Spencer Shaak (Reading, PA/Exeter Township Senior), and the Lions’ 4x400 team would all record victories in other events on Saturday, helping to seal the deal for the Red and White.  Shaak took home the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:42.4, while Mays was the fastest in the 200-meter dash, sprinting to a 24.7 second finish.  The relay team easily was victorious in the 4x400 meter relay by crossing the finish line with a time of 3:50.9.

The Red and White will take their indoor show on the road next Friday when they travel to Haverford College for a 4 PM meet next week.
