Twenty-One Named to MASCAC Spring Academic Honor RollMonday, June 8, 2009 ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation spring Academic Honor Roll, which notes academic excellence by student-athletes, contains 442 honorees as announced by Executive Director Ken Andrews.
The Honor Roll comprises those student-athletes of sophomore class standing or higher who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) or higher and completed the playing season in good standing.
Messiah led in selections with 70 student-athletes, followed by Elizabethtown with 49. Misericordia and King’s tied for third with 39 student-athletes. Lebanon Valley was fifth with 38, while Manhattanville, Widener and Eastern tied for sixth with 32 student-athletes on the list. Lycoming was ninth with 29 student-athletes. Arcadia and FDU-Florham tied for tenth with 25. DeSales and Wilkes each had 24, followed by Albright (21), Delaware Valley (20) and Alvernia (13).
Featured on the spring honor roll are several standouts including First Team All-Conference selections Jason Dunkelberger (Baseball), and Lisa Archibald (Women’s Tennis). Also featured on this year’s list was Second Team All-Conference selection Marissa Cooperman (Women’s Tennis).
Student-athletes are selected from baseball, softball, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s track and field, women’s track and field, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and golf.
Click here for Albright honorees Click here for all honorees | Men’s 4x400 Relay Places Fourth on Final Day of Conference ChampionshipSaturday, May 2, 2009 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Looking to make one final surge on the final day of the 2009 Middle Atlantic Conference championship meet, the Lions once again saw another set of strong performances on the track and in the field events. Guiding the way for the red and white was the 4x400 meter relay team of Ryan Bausch (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), Ryan Mays (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin), Kyle Keller (Schoneck, PA/Cocalico), and Tevin Wood (Baltimore, MD/Wood Lawn). The four sprinters posted a final time of 3:28.59 in the event to take fourth place. In the finals of the 400 meter dash, Wood took seventh place with a time of 51.66 seconds. Yesterday afternoon, Wood qualified for the final heat with a preliminary time of 52.01 seconds. Freshman Clif LeGrand (Prince Frederick, MD/Huntingtown) took fifth place in the Long Jump event with a leap of 20-04.25 feet. He was joined by Bausch who placed seventh with a final jump of 20-02.50 feet. Moving into the hammer throw, a total of three Albright throwers competed in the event. Earning the team’s top distance was senior Ryan Thomas (Mohrsville, PA/Hamburg Area). Thomas closed out the day with a final toss of 144-11 feet. Aaron Rogers (Reading, PA/Exeter Township Senior) finished right behind him in fifth place (141-01). The final Albright thrower in the event was Anthony Pellegrino (Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade). Pellegrino recorded a throw of 112-11 feet to earn 14th place. Back on the track, freshman runner George Cook (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) took 12th place in the long 1,500 meter run. Cook who has been sensational in the mid-distance and distance events this season recorded a final time of 4:17.06. Freshman Jordan Fegley (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) competed in his first championship event on Saturday. The Reading, Pa. native finished in 15th place in the Javelin Throw after recording a distance of 157-09 feet. Robert Kellert (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) was the final Albright runner to compete on Saturday placing 19th in the 5,000 meter run (17:08.90). Overall the Lions earned a combined 57.50 points to take sixth place out of a total of nine teams that competed this season. The host Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College took the gold with a total of 170 points. They were followed by Messiah College in second place with 168 points and DeSales University in third place with 132 points. Final Meet Results | Men’s Track Records Strong Finishes at Day One of MAC ChampionshipsFriday, May 1, 2009 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - After their first day of competition the Albright Men’s Track and Field sits in fifth place out of nine teams that are competing at the 2009 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship meet. Helping the Lions to a team total of 35.50 points was a variety of athletes, starting with Kyle Keller (Schoneck, PA/Cocalico) who placed fifth in the decathlon with a total of 4,773 points. Helping to add to the Lions total was sophomore Justin Gewirtz (North Wales, PA/Wissahickon) who picked up another second place finish in the High Jump event with a height 6-04.00 feet. Also earning a top five finish in the High Jump was Clif LeGrand (Prince Frederick, MD/Huntingtown). LeGrand recorded a height of 6-02.00 feet to tie for fourth place with DeSales Andrew MacNiven. Andrew Hettinger (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) recorded one his best finishes in the Discus Throw with a throw of 126-02 feet to finish in fifth place. Tim Alabi (Washington DC/Bladensburg) earned an eighth place finish in the same event with a toss of 120-08 feet. Moving into the Shot Put junior Justin Plummer (Upper Darby, PA/Friends Central) and freshman Jordan Gilbert (Pittsgrove, NJ/Arthur P. Schalick) finished in seventh and eighth place respectively with marks of 43-01.50 feet and 42-03.50 feet. LeGrand tallied a fourth place finish in the Triple Jump with a distance of 42-10.75 feet. Senior Ryan Bausch (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) actually led the Lions in the event with a distance of 43-02.50 feet which earned him third place. Freshman Tevin Wood (Baltimore, MD/Wood Lawn) qualified for the first track event of the day in the 400 meter dash. Wood recorded a time of 52.01 seconds in the qualifying round. In the finals Wood placed 10th with a time of 11.52 seconds. Also placing 10th was Ryan Mays (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) in the 200 meter dash to end the afternoon. The freshman sprinter recorded a time of 23.32 seconds. Men’s Track and Field return to action tomorrow afternoon for the final day of competition. | Men’s Track and Field Shine at Messiah InvitationalSaturday, April 18, 2009 GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Albright Men’s Track and Field team had quite the afternoon at the 2009 Messiah College Invitational. A variety of athletes shined in their respective events throughout Saturday’s meet. The afternoon got off to a great start as Kyle Keller (Schoneck, PA/Cocalico) set the all-time decathlon record at Albright with 4,154 points. Also making his first decathlon appearance was newcomer Jeff Wasco (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley), who totaled 3,641 points. In the day’s first sprint event, Clif LeGrand (Prince Frederick, MD/Huntingtown) placed ninth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.52 seconds. Right on his heels was Ryan Mays (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) who finished just .01 seconds behind LeGrand. From there Mays would go on to claim the top Lions finishes in the 200 and 400 meter dashes. In the 200 Mays finished in seventh place with a time of 23.15 seconds, while in the 400 he closed out the event with a time of 54.19 seconds to earn him 11th place. Moving into the long distance events, freshman George Cook (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) posted another top time in the 1,500 meter run. With a 13th place finish, the New Jersey native recorded a final time of 4:24.74. Chris Bollinger (Little Silver, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) also went the distance in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:46.38. Freshman Richard Crawford (Blue Bell, PA/William Penn Charter) took seventh place in the 400 meter hurdle event, while Robert Kellert (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) placed seventh in the 3,000 meter Steeple Chase. The Lions then took fourth place in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 44.18 seconds. In the team’s first field event, the High Jump, Justin Gewirtz (North Wales, PA/Wissahickon) placed first with a height of 6-05.00 feet. LeGrand was also a top five finisher in the event with a height of 5-09.75 feet (5th place). The Long Jump would also see an Albright first place finish as LeGrand posted a distance of 19-00.50 feet to earn his first top mark of the day. Ryan Bausch (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) claimed third in the Triple Jump with a distance of 42-11.00 feet. Albright once again dominated the throw events starting with the Shot Put. Senior Aaron Rogers (Reading, PA/Exeter Township Senior) earned third place with a throw of 42-09.50 feet. Justin Plummer (Upper Darby, PA/Friends Central) finished two spots behind his teammate in sixth with a mark of 41-08.00 feet. Andrew Hettinger (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) took fourth place in the discus with a toss of 119-03.00 feet. Rogers was right behind him with a throw of 117-01 feet to earn fifth place. Senior Ryan Thomas (Mohrsville, PA/Hamburg Area) continued to dominate in the Hammer Throw taking first with a sensational throw of 146-05.00 feet. Just last week, Thomas set the all-time hammer throw record at Albright with a toss of 150 feet even. To close out Saturday’s meet, the duo of Jordan Fegley (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) and Jordan Gilbert (Pittsgrove, NJ/Arthur P. Schalick) earned seventh and 14th place respectively in the Javelin throw. Men’s Track and Field returns to action on Thursday when they take part in day one of the 2009 Penn Relays. Complete Meet Results | Thomas Breaks Hammer Throw Record for the Second TimeSaturday, April 11, 2009 WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Less than a month after breaking the all-time hammer throw record at Albright College, senior member Ryan Thomas (Mohrsville, PA/Hamburg Area) shattered the record for the second time with a distance 150-00 feet at the West Chester University College Invitational. The mark set a new personal best for the senior thrower, and broke his original record setting distance by almost eight feet. Thomas, who placed second in the event, missed out on first place by just one inch. He was also one of three members to earn a second place finish at the meet. Also taking second was freshman George Cook (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) in the 3000 meter Steeplechase with a time of 10:35.00. Justin Gewirtz (North Wales, PA/Wissahickon) earned his second straight second place finish in the High Jump event with a height of 6-02.00. Recording top five finishes in Saturday’s meet were Jordan Gilbert (Pittsgrove, NJ/Arthur P. Schalick) and Aaron Rogers (Reading, PA/Exeter Township Senior). The two throwers finished in fourth and fifth place respectively in the Shot Put. Gilbert ended the meet with a distance of 41-07.25, while Rogers recorded a final mark of 41-03.25. To start off the afternoon, Michael Reed (Baltimore, MD/Woodlawn) placed 24th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.08 seconds. From there Reed recorded an 18th place finish in the 200 with a time of 24.64 seconds. Donald Wonnie (Reading, PA/Wilson) brought home his first top-20 finish of the year with a time of 53.53 seconds in the 400 meter dash. Taking 7th place in the long 5,000 meter run was Cook with a time of 16:33.34. In the 110 meter Hurdles, Kyle Keller (Schoneck, PA/Cocalico) finished with a time of 17.42 seconds to earn 10th place. Andrew Hettinger (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) and Tim Alabi (Washington DC/Bladensburg) were also top-10 finishers at Saturday’s meet in the Discus Throw. Hettinger placed eighth with a mark of 126-08 feet, and Alabi placed 10th with a distance of 121-03 feet. Complete Meet Results | Thomas Breaks Hammer Throw Record at Golden Ram InviteFriday, March 20, 2009 WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Senior thrower Ryan Thomas (Mohrsville, PA/Hamburg Area) set a new program record for the hammer throw, Friday afternoon at the Golden Ram Invitational. Thomas, who has been one of the top throwers all year long, recorded a final distance of 142.01.00 feet to earn first place in the event. Friday’s distance was also a career best distance for the senior as well. The original record of 140-10.00 was set in 1999 by Chris Nordzy, and was tied in 2006 by Warren Lucious. Thomas also competed in two other events on Friday. The first of which was the shot put event in which he placed seventh. He then placed ninth in the discuss throw with a final distance of 106-04.00. Friday’s meet started with the 100 meter dash. Freshman sprinter Kyle Keller (Schoneck, PA/Cocalico) recorded the only Albright finish in the event with a time of 12.23 seconds (19th). Keller then added another top 25 finish to his resume on Friday in the 200 meter dash (24.88). Freshman George Cook (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) continued his top times in the long distance events. In the 5,000 meter run, the Brick, N.J. native placed second with a final time of 16:30.98. Also competing in the event was Robert Kellert (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) who finished in eighth place (17:04.56) and Chris Bollinger (Little Silver, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) who finished in 11th place (18:38.15). In his final track event Keller earned a sixth place finish in the 110 meter hurdles with a final time of 18.89 seconds. Moving into the field events Ryan Bausch (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) recorded his first top finish of the season in the triple jump. The senior jumper tallied a final distance of 41-08.00 feet. Aaron Rogers (Reading, PA/Exeter Township Senior) earned the Lions another first place finish in the shot put event. His throw of 44-02.00 was a career best distance for the senior. Jordan Gilbert (Pittsgrove, NJ/Arthur P. Schalick) and Andrew Hettinger (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) were also amongst the top finishers in the event as well. Gilbert placed fifth, while Hettinger earned sixth. Hettinger recorded a third place distance in the discus throw. His mark of 120-02.00 was his third best throw ever at Albright. Men’s Track and Field returns to action on Saturday, April 4th when they take part in the Muhlenberg College meet. Start time for that meet has not yet been determined. Complete Meet Results | |
